The Race To Erase MS
This year Cinco De Mayo was celebrated in Los Angeles with one of my best friends Deana. We joke that we're both 'Dees' but one has an extra 'n'. Take a guess who. Hey it makes it easier to remember. Anyhow, Deana and I met back in Rhode Island when she owned a bakery. She feed me cupcakes so we became friends. Really good friends. She learned early on that the way to my heart was cupcakes and donuts and fast forward 6 years the same is true.
Deana invited me to the Race to Erase MS Gala last year and we had a blast. Not only were we able to dress up and catch up BUT The Race to Erase MS annual event founded by Nancy Davis is a gala to raise funds for the treatment and ultimate cure of Multiple Sclerosis. Funding research is the main focus of the Foundation and all funds raised support the Center Without Walls program, a selected network of the nation’s top MS research centers. Every year this event is filled with all sorts of celebrities. Paris Hilton, Kris Jenner, Carmen Electra, Randy Jackson, Tommy Hilfiger, Lisa Rinna, Lance Bass, and honoree, Jamie-Lynn Sigler were just a few faces seen this year on the red or shall I say orange carpet.
But the true celebrity in my eyes? Deana. What some people don't know is that Deana lost her mom to MS. Like many, Deana wanted to do something about it. She wanted to see an end to MS. So she teamed up with Alex & Ani and came up with a cupcake bangle for their Charity By Design line. A portion of the proceeds from that bangle are donated to the Nancy Davis Foundation. Last year the bangle alone had raised over one million dollars. A simple idea that turned into something grand. And that's why Deana is a true star in my eyes. A true inspiration and I am so honored to be able to call her my friend.
The Race To Erase MS Gala is one of their biggest fundraising events but you can still donate to this amazing cause. Here are some links to Race to Erase MS, and Alex & Ani's Cupcake bangle. If you are looking for information on Multiple Sclerosis and the research behind it head over to this page.
On a side note both our dresses were rented from Rent The Runway. If you have never used this gem - do it! You won't regret it.
