To Open Or Not To Open
It's here - The CrossFit Open. You either love it or hate it. Me? Ugh....where do I begin. First for those who aren't familiar with CrossFit, the Open is a 5 week, 5 workout competition that is held at all CrossFit affiliates (or boxes). The top athletes from each region then compete for a qualifying spot a the CrossFit Games. Each Thursday the workout is released and you have until Monday 5pm PT to submit a score.
Today the workout was released. Here is what 17.1 consists of:
Workout 17.1

20 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
30 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
40 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
50 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
Men use 50-lb dumbbell 24-in. box
Women 35-lb dumbbell and 20-in. box
Time cap: 20 minutes
Sounds fun right? NOT! After seeing the workout (I posted it below) I'm still undecided. I go back and forth. The Open gives me anxiety. I want to do my best. Everyone should, but believe it or not I hate feeling like I'm under pressure to perform my best. Of course with the added pressure comes a greater chance of injuring yourself. And yes that's not fun either. I hate it but it feels so great when it's over. You see - the hate/love relationship?
What do I like about the Open? The camaraderie. The support you get from the coaches and people you WOD with everyday. Pushing your limits. Seeing your friends push their limits too. Watching that one person finally get their first double under or chest to bar. That's what I love about the Open. The stress? The anxiety?? Ugh I'll pass.
So as I write this I'm still undecided. I think I might just sleep on it. I have till Monday right?
